It's time for change. The number of Americans without jobs is at its highest level in almost 15 years. Every day in this country, Americans are feeling the results of our struggling economy and rising gas prices. Every year, because of our over-dependence on foreign oil, we send hundreds of billions of dollars to the most dangerous and unstable areas of the world. We're fighting wars on multiple fronts, we're sending millions of American jobs overseas, and we're polluting our planet. As long as we continue to allow our economy to remain shackled to oil – our jobs and way of life remain at risk.
We have a choice. We can take America in a new direction. We can make clean energy investments that will allow us to become the world's leading exporter of renewable energy. We can create clean energy jobs right here in America that will lay the foundation for lasting prosperity for our country. We can take steps to ensure that we leave behind a livable planet for our children and our grandchildren.
Comprehensive clean energy and climate policies will help create new clean energy jobs and whole new industries while protecting the climate from the carbon pollution that causes global warming. Across America, we are seeing a growing coalition of businesses, labor unions, faith groups, veterans, sportsmen and environmentalists and others who support a transition to a clean energy economy.
Transitioning to a clean energy economy will:

- Reduce our dependence on oil
- Reduce carbon pollution and preserve our planet
